The process of getting veneers is straightforward and improves the appearance, colour and shape of your teeth allowing you to feel comfortable and confident.

What you need to know

Veneers (also known as laminates), are a thin, tooth-coloured shell made from porcelain or composite resin that is shaped to bond to the front of your natural teeth. They are often used instead of a crown where there is sufficient healthy natural tooth structure available. Veneers are an excellent way to correct the aesthetics by covering chipped or discoloured teeth or even eliminating gaps.

The benefits of veneers, include:

  • Veneers don’t change colour over time

  • They cover imperfections including gaps, chips and stains

  • Improving the length, shape, proportion, surface texture or colour of your teeth

  • They are durable and scratch resistant

  • They look natural

  • Don’t affect the function of your mouth

Treatment for veneers is a 3 step process. In your first appointment preliminary impressions will be taken and this is sometimes followed up by a consult to view a demo model of what the veneers will look like. The second stage is where preparation of the teeth will occur and a secondary impression will be taken, followed with placement of temporary veneers if required. In the final appointment the dentist will try on the veneers and once you and the dentist are satisfied, cementation of the veneers will be done.

You may also require a follow-up appointment to have your veneers checked and adjusted if needed.

Your teeth may feel sensitive to hot or cold food initially but should settle in a couple of days. By maintaining excellent dental habits and taking care when eating hard foods, you can prolong the life of your veneers.
